A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy who was shot on Sunday is in good condition, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was taken into custody. His identity has not been released.

Deputies responded to the Jolly Washer gas station/car wash on Hwy 12 in Sonoma just before 11 a.m. after the manager called to report the suspect — an employee there — was standing behind a truck in the car wash line and “acting suspicious.”

Authorities say the suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired at the responding deputies.

Officials say at least one deputy returned fire but did not hit the suspect.

The deputy injured was hit in multiple areas of his body. Officials say he is in good condition and is expected to survive his injuries.

“We are thankful that our deputy is going to be ok and we appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time,” the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Sunday afternoon.
