San Jose teens accused of catfishing men on Tinder to rob them

Police have arrested five teens for a series of armed robberies and carjackings that happened between March 16 and March 29.

The suspects created fake Tinder accounts posing as women named Becky and Veronica.

They would then set up dates under the female aliases.

The time and locations were usually late in the evening and in secluded areas.

Once the male victims would meet who they thought would be Becky or Veronica, they were then beaten and robbed or carjacked at gunpoint by several masked suspects.

Those suspects are 19-year-old Bryan Gonzales, 18-year-old Jonathan Jimenez, 18-year-old Lesly Portillo, 19-year-old Yadira Villareal, and a 15-year-old juvenile suspect.

All of the teens were arrested at different times.

Charges include robbery, carjacking, auto theft, and hit and run.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department.
