San Francisco’s bag fee could increase to 25 cents, more than double what it costs now.

Supervisor Vallie Brown introduced a proposal that would increase the charge for single-use bags from 10 cents to 25 cents at stores in the city.

The proposal also would ban the plastic bags used for produce.

The hope is to increase the number of people who bring reusable bags to stores.

Bay Area cities like San Mateo, Los Altos, and Pacifica already charge a quarter for single-use bags.
