San Francisco Mayor announces reopening plan

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – San Francisco Mayor London Breed and other city officials announced the city’s reopening plan amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The same day, San Francisco had allowed personal care services such as hair salons, nail salons, and barbershops to resume outdoor operations.

Many businesses have been closed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Since July, San Francisco has been on California’s COVID-19 watch list, which restricted many activities.

The state’s new “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” plan ranks each California county using a colored tier system based on the rate of community spread of coronavirus. Counties are categorized as purple (widespread transmission), red (substantial), orange (moderate), and yellow (minimal).

According to Mayor Breed, the city will reopen gradually based on its unique COVID-19 data.

“We remain committed to making decisions based on data and our local conditions with COVID-19, and our next steps take a balanced and thoughtful approach to reopening. But we all need to do our part to reopen while keeping our community safe, so remember to cover your face, keep your distance, and wash your hands regularly,” Breed said.

Additional services will be announced as long as San Francisco continues to make progress toward decreasing COVID-19 numbers.

Businesses and services that can reopen include:

GOAL: Mid-September

GOAL: End-September

GOAL: October

GOAL: November
