The row of fraternity and sorority houses at Stanford University has become the scene of a possible sexual assault and battery in Palo Alto late Saturday night.
The Stanford Department of Public Safety received the incident report a day later.
“It was eerily similar to a like a similar drugging event that happened last year,” Anna-Sofia, a Stanford student, said. “Yeah, it just makes you, you know, kinda more hesitant every time that you go to a social event here, I guess.”
A community crime alert was sent out by the university to those across campus saying that the woman attends classes at Stanford.
The alert states that she took a sip of water that a man she didn’t know gave to her.
Authorities say that she doesn’t remember much from the event she was at, other than the water tasted odd.
Friends of the girl told police that they saw a man groping her on the dance floor and eventually took her home.
“It’s not on the girl’s friends to take care of her other girl herself, like, that’s uh something to do with the culture here,” Nick, another Stanford student, said.
Police are unsure if the man involved is also a student.
At this time, the victim has chosen not to come forward.
Without the victim’s cooperation, authorities say its unclear if a crime was committed but that the victim can still come forward.
This incident follows another report of a rape on the main campus back in August.
“I just thought it was disappointing that in this week when we’re dealing on a national stage with these issues that we had this happen on the campus or possibly or reportedly happened on the campus,” a woman said, who has remained unnamed.
