Controversy at the Chase Center construction site as workers say a noose was found on the property last Friday.

Mortenson | Clark Construction Companies are running the $1-billion project that will soon be home to the Warriors.

They’ve confirmed to KRON4 that a rope was discovered on site and immediately removed.

San Francisco Police are investigating the incident.

Mortenson | Clark says they’re taking it all very seriously and are working to get to the bottom of it. Signs are posted around the construction site reminding workers to respect one another.

It’s just one of several moves the companies say they’re making to foster their diverse workforce.

Multiple workers say a noose being found on the site, didn’t phase them and it’s just the nature of the job having so many different men on the site.

Mortenson | Clark sent a statement reading:

“Mortenson | Clark is committed to providing a safe work environment – free of harassment and discrimination – for all individuals on our job site. The incident that occurred this morning at the Chase Center project site in no way reflects the values and beliefs of our two organizations. We are currently investigating the matter and will work with authorities to address this incident. Mortenson | Clark condemns any form of racism or bigotry and has a clear anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policy that strictly prohibits this behavior.

We take these matters very seriously. Immediately following the incident, Mortenson | Clark notified local authorities and ceased work in the area to directly address this situation with foremen working nearby. Additionally, we underscored our team’s anti-harassment policy and restated our expectations for conduct on site.

Mortenson | Clark is committed to creating a culture of inclusion, fostering a diverse workforce, and to maintaining an environment where dignity and respect for everyone on our project is paramount. To reinforce a culture of respect and safety, Mortenson | Clark has taken proactive measures to require diversity and inclusion training for all our team members in San Francisco and extended free respect and awareness training to all subcontractor partners on the Chase Center project site, and throughout the Bay Area.”

Whether it bothers them or not, workers agree there’s no place for it.

Mortenson | Clark did hold an all hands on deck meeting Monday morning reminding workers of how diverse the site is and the importance of tolerance.

The company says they also offer on-site diversity training to all subcontractors on site.

Now there was one crew that sources say was let go of the project on Friday, however, Clark says it isn’t connected to this incident.
