Police were looking for two men accused of stabbing another man so brutally that he later died of his injuries at a hospital in Santa Rosa.
But at around 10:30 a.m., the two suspects were taken into custody on Thursday after a traffic stop on Highway 580.
Around 7:46 p.m. Wednesday police responded to reports of a fight in the 1200 block of Slater St.
When officers arrived, everyone was gone.
Soon after, Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa called police to report a stabbing victim had just arrived.
“Due to the nature and severity of the victim’s injuries, he was transported to Memorial Hospital,” police said. “While at Memorial, the victim died, presumably from his injuries.”
Santa Rosa Police Department Violent Crimes Investigations were called out and took over the investigation.
Detectives found that the victim had been in a fight with two other people, in which he was stabbed an “undisclosed” number of times.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene while a third person drove the victim to the hospital.
They are identified as Johnny Luis Martinez, a 20-year-old Santa Rosa resident, and Gabriel Cardin Heredia, a 25-year-old Santa Rosa resident.
