A donation jar to help a youth baseball team disappeared from a store counter in the North Bay.

According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, a woman took it.

And the theft could hurt the chances of a player going to the championship game.

KRON4’s Justine Waldman has details you will only hear on KRON4.

With sunglasses on her head, a woman stole money from the little kids.

A security camera at Lombardi’s Gourmet Deli and BBQ on Petaluma Boulevard captured her taking a jar jammed with $100 in cash and coins on Monday.

“So, it was disheartening,” Christine Lombardi said.

The money is for the Athletic Edge team, a travel youth baseball team for 13-year-olds.

Last year, they were in the championship game in New York.

Donations help kids get there, pay for equipment, and food while on the road.

Lombardi’s son traveled last year.

“These kids work hard for this opportunity and taking something away from them, even $100, for one of the families that struggles to go to these,” Lombardi said.

The sheriff’s office put the woman seen in the security camera on blast.

“We put it out on our Facebook site, and we had a lot of people giving us tips and we ended up finding out who she was,” Sonoma County Sheriff Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

The post went viral, and the sheriff’s office has now identified her has a homeless woman from the area.

When she is caught, she will be charged with petty theft.

And the team mom appreciates all the support.

“You can tell the real concern that kids were violated in this way,” Lombardi said.

Now, donations jars will be collected sooner, so the money doesn’t walk off in the wrong hands again.
