ONLY ON 4: Burglar steals ashes of Concord woman’s mother

A thief broke into a Concord home and stole the ashes of a woman’s mother, and now, the victim is begging for help.

The thieves broke into the victim’s home on Franquette Avenue near Challenge Drive. That’s near the Hobby Lobby store, and the thief is still on the loose.

The tough part of this is that officers did not know the woman’s mother’s ashes had been stolen.  A police report was filed but the victim, Marjorie Ferguson, didn’t realize the urn with the ashes in it was stolen until days later.

And she hasn’t been able to get anyone on the phone with the police department.

“I just want my mom back,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson is broken up and begging for help. Within the last week, a thief broke into the RV she is living in with her husband and stole numerous items, including the urn that held her mother’s ashes.

“They took a wooden box that had my mother’s urn in it with her ashes and her rosary beads and an angel and different memorabilia stuff that I had packed away to keep with me, and I just want that back,” Ferguson said. “I want my mom’s ashes back.”

It has been a tough couple of weeks for Marjorie. She and her husband were forced out of their home.

They are living in an RV and have been unable to find an affordable site to park it.

Days after they began living on the streets in the RV, the ashes were stolen.

“And I’m just begging, pleading–whoever did this, I don’t need to know your name or anything,” Ferguson said. “If you would just return my mother’s urn please.”

KRON4 talked with Skyview Cemetary where the urn was purchased. They said this is a keepsake urn so it is much smaller. Most of the ashes were buried with another family member.

The urn is teal in color, around the size of a large salt or pepper shaker.

Marjorie is hopeful that someone will drop it back off at the police station or where she is staying.
