Officer rescues pup from burning boat in San Rafael

A police officer sprung into action to save a dog from a burning boat in San Rafael.

The fire broke out just before 5:30 a.m. at the San Rafael Yacht Harbor.

The San Rafael Police Department posted video of the blaze on their Facebook page and it’s been viewed thousands of times.

KRON4’s Gayle Ong spoke to a witness who helped put out the fire.

Jeremy Gaebe said he woke up to his frantic neighbor screaming for help.

Gaebe said, “we just kind of had to jump into action and find hoses and fire extinguishers and try to do what we could until the fire department got in here.

While firefighters were trying to put out the flames, Officer Travis Ruggles jumped on the boat and rescued the helpless pup.

After the fire was contained, the dog was reunited with its owner.
