EL CERRITO (KRON) – An off-duty San Francisco police officer shot and wounded a man armed with a rock Sunday night, authorities said.
It happened around 10 p.m. Sunday on Moeser Lane.
Police say the man, identified 44-year-old transient Thomas Vincent Whalen, was was struck at least once and was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Whalen was later arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon or instrument, other than a firearm upon a peace officer, the El Cerrito Police Department said.
According to police, the arrest was made based on evidence that he used a rock as a weapon.
Whalen is still at the hospital but he is in stable condition.
The officer was not injured.
The matter is still under active investigation.
