OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – A fatal shooting led to the closure of northbound Interstate-880 in Oakland on Friday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 5:15 p.m., CHP officers responded to a crash on the freeway near Oak Street.

Officers arrived to find a man in the car who had been shot.

Investigators say it appears that after the man was shot, he veered off hitting the guardrail before coming to a stop.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was being forced off the freeway northbound I-880 at the Oak Street exit.

A severe traffic alert was issued after all lanes were closed. Drivers should expect delays.

As of 10 p.m., all lanes were reopened.
