Big rig overturns on Hwy 101 in Novato, spilling debris

NOVATO, Calif. (KRON) — A truck hauling scrap metal from cars on Highway 101 overturned Friday morning in Novato.

The crash happened on the southbound lanes, but debris was also blocking the northbound lanes, according to California Highway Patrol. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. The lanes are expected to be all cleared before noon.

As of 7:19 a.m., southbound center lanes are open. The left and right lanes remain blocked. Northbound left and center lanes remain blocked, according to CHP.

Officials said the driver of the 18-wheeler fell asleep and crashed into a guardrail. He only had minor injuries. They brought a bulldozer to the scene to clean up the big chunks of scrap metal.
