OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Police are investigating after a mother and daughter were shot inside their home late Sunday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., witnesses report the shooting that happened on Sterling Dr in Oakland.

Police confirm to KRON4 that the daughter is a minor, and both of them are in “stable condition.”

“When I look at an 11-year-old girl with my own daughter 12-years-old I can only imagine the trauma she has gone through and how that will stay with her the rest of her life,” City Councilmember Loren Taylor said.

Oakland City Councilmember Loren Taylor says police must solve more cases. He also violence prevention and intervention efforts must be expanded.

“We have to treat root causes as we stop the bleeding and deal with the immediate response and I think it’s important we look at increasing the presence of police officers and other peacekeeping community members that can help deter the activity that is occurring,” Taylor said.

No arrests have been made.

The calm and peace of Lake Merritt has also been turned on its head by violence — As seen on video from the Citizen app, police were back along Lakeshore Avenue early Monday morning when a man and woman were shot.

Both are in stable condition, but this is becoming a pattern.

On Thursday, a 22-year-old woman sitting in a car just down the street was shot and killed.

A man says years of oppression against people of color has now become internalized and fear has one community taking up against another. He says he and others are being extra careful when out at night .

City Council President Nikki Fortunado Bas issued a statement saying she is concerned about the repeat shootings on Lakeshore Ave in the cul-de-sac community. She says OPD has committed to bringing increased patrols in the early morning hours and late evening when these crimes most often occur.

KRON4 reached out to Oakland police for an on camera interview, they were unwilling to do that.

They were also unwilling to furnish any additional details about these two most recent events.
