FREMONT, Calif. (KRON/AP) — The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery game has grown to $1 billion ahead of Friday night’s drawing after more than four months without a winner thanks to bad luck, poor odds and reduced play partially blamed on the coronavirus pandemic.
THE WINNING NUMBERS FOR FRIDAY’S $1 BILLION JACKPOT: 4 — 26 — 42 — 50 –60 – Mega Ball 24 – the Megaplier is 2x
It’s only the third time a lottery jackpot has grown so large, but much has changed since the last time such a big prize was up for grabs in 2018.
After taxes get taken out – the jackpot comes out to 739 million dollars in cash!
The odds of winning a jackpot remain the same — incredibly small — but for a variety of reasons fewer people are playing Mega Millions or Powerball, the two lottery games offered in most of the country.
On Tuesday – a single Powerball ticket sold in Maryland and was the winner of the 731 million dollar jackpot, the first to get the full top prize in months.
The Mega Millions drawing will happen tonight at eight, and we shall see if anyone has the lucky numbers taking home the big jackpot.
