A hot air balloon made an emergency landing Sunday morning on Skaggs Island near Vallejo, according to the Vallejo Firefighters Association.
Authorities say the pilot determined the high winds were pushing the balloon closer to power lines.
He was able to safely land the balloon that was carrying 10 passengers in a remote area.
It left from Sonoma Skypark Airport in the morning was supposed to float above the vineyards and surrounding hills of Sonoma County.
All the passengers on board, along with the pilot, were airlifted to another area where they received medical attention.
Fire officials say the patients suffered from cold weather and one sustained minor injuries.
Sonoma Ballooning Adventures released a statement following the incident:
Our pilot at no time during or after the flight this morning reported to any agency, including news, flight tower or local authorities, that he was making an emergency or crash landing. He was careful and vigilant during the flight and chose a suitable, yet remote place to land, which was dry at the time. As our team was making arrangements to pickup passengers via boat upon landing, we were also maintaining communication with the Napa Airport Tower. Out of an abundance of caution we worked with local authorities to transport our passengers back to the mainland since they were in an isolated area. Despite a minor inconvenience, none of our passengers were injured this morning. The safety and comfort of our passengers is always our number one priority and great caution was taken this morning to ensure their well-being. We want to thank Solano County Sheriff’s Office and CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations for their support this morning.
