SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — A gas leak in San Francisco forced evacuations and a shelter in place on Thursday afternoon.

The gas leak was reported in the area of Clement Street and 5th Avenue, but has since been resolved.

One person was injured.

The San Francisco Fire Department was on scene and asked the public to evacuate Clement Street from 6th Avenue to Arguello Boulevard. In addition, 5th Avenue from Cornwall Street to Geary Boulevard was closed.

Just after 7 p.m., fire officials reported that all businesses and residents were able to return to their homes and reopen their businesses.

The 200 block of 5th Avenue remained closed at this time.

Red Cross was providing an air-conditioned bus at 375 5th Ave. for those who were displaced for a temporary shelter.

PG&E crews were at the scene to determine the source of the smell.

No other details were immediately available.
