10:00 p.m. update: Highway 84 has reopened following fatal police shooting.
FREMONT, Calif. (KRON) – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that involved a Fremont police officer on Wednesday.
Around 2:48 p.m., the incident occurred in the area of Highway 84 and Ardenwood Boulevard.
Fremont police reported that CHP Hayward will be the lead investigating agency.
According to the CHP, the shooting happened following a pursuit that ended near Newark Boulevard.
Around 7:35 p.m., police said the suspect, who was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen and associated with an armed robbery, had died.
All lanes were blocked for hours but have since reopened.
Residents were asked to avoid the area.
No other details have been released.
