SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KRON) – The California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal car crash on US-101 in the North Bay on Monday afternoon.

Around 1:38 p.m., CHP Santa Rosa posted to Twitter saying the crash happened on the southbound lanes at Healdsburg Ave. and Old Redwood Highway.

The southbound lanes were closed and traffic was being diverted at Healdsburg Ave. and Old Redwood Highway.

According to officials, around 1:02 p.m., the crash involving several vehicles happened and blocked both lanes.

One person died and two people suffered major injuries, the CHP says.

Investigators say that a Dodge pickup, driven by 47-year-old Todd Beth of Santa Rosa, was speeding down southbound lanes toward traffic that was slowing down due to construction.

The pickup did not slow down and crashed into a white Subaru and a black Hyundai Tucson, police say.

Officials say the Hyundai received major damage and hit a guardrail and veered back into a Chevrolet pickup. The Subaru was also pushed into another car, a blue Hyundai.

Authorities say the drivers of those cars were driving at a slower pace for the construction zone.

Three women were in the black Hyundai Tucson and one of the women in the back seat died. The other two were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Todd Beth was also taken to the hospital to be treated and was cooperating with the investigation.

No other injuries were reported.

Authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
