An East Bay community gathered together Wednesday night to remember Mariah Davis.
Friends say the 18-year-old woman was an active member of the Social Justice Academy and fought to help others.
They also say she fought against domestic violence after ending her two year relationship with Anthony Pimentel who police say admitted to killing her.
Pimentel was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday but it was postponed.
Davis’ family says they will show up to every court appearance.
Her mother and family sat front and center at the memorial grieving while friends stood up and spoke about what a wonderful light Davis was.
“She was an amazing scholar, bright and vibrant, very intelligent, always smiling,” one person said.
After two years of being abused, she broke up with her ex.
That was months ago.
She ended up meeting him for lunch last week but then went missing.
Days later, Pimental admitted to police that he killer her and then dumped her body near Lake Chabot, police said.
Through the tragedy, Davis’ mother is trying to stay strong with support from the community.
Friends and family want people to know, this horrific event does not define who she was.
“She was the most selfless person ever. She was beautiful inside and out.”
