A Fairfield man has been arrested after police recovered an illegally possessed assault rifle from his car on Friday.
Police say the man, identified as 29-year-old Albert Buggs, had an AK-47 rifle with one round in the chamber and 28 rounds loaded in the magazine.
Around midnight, police made a traffic stop on a woman near the 1100 block of Texas Street. She told the officers that she just witnessed a person in a black Honda Civic with a rifle inside the car.
The officers then went to the apartment complex in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue where the woman said she saw the person with the rifle.
In the apartment building parking lot, officials observed a man, Buggs, quickly get out of a black Honda Civic.
One officer approached him while another looked into the car windows — This officer clearly saw the rifle leaning against the center console.
Authorities say the rifle was within reach of the driver and was not concealed. Buggs denied ownership and said he didn’t know anything about the rifle.
Officials determined that Buggs was also on active DUI probation. He was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Buggs was booked into Solano County Jail for multiple weapons violation charges, in addition to a probation violation.
If you see something suspicious, police encourage you to report it and call the dispatch center. For emergencies dial 911, for non-emergencies call (707) 428-7300.
A photo of the suspect has not been released at this time.
