A Vallejo baseball team is heartbroken after they became the target of thieves early Saturday morning.
The team’s brand new sound system and scoreboard equipment were stolen.
Tom Pangelinan coaches the Vallejo High School Redhawks and says the burglars used a bolt cutter to clip the lock protecting the PA system.
They took everything from inside of the rack enclosure and also snatched the control unit that helps operate the scoreboard that bears the name of New York Yankees star CC Sabathia.
The Vallejo native helped pay to refurbish the field in 2013.
Pangelinan says thousands of dollars worth of electronics were stolen but despite the money, he feels like something more has been taken away.
“For a lot of kids in this community, sports is pretty much their only outlet from a negative life sometimes on the mean streets out here,” Pangelinan said. “It hits home for me because it’s the kids that suffer.”
The team is hoping the community can step up and help out.
