The suspect involved in a deadly DUI crash in Nov. 2017 on Interstate 80 in San Pablo has been sentenced to 135 years to life in state prison by the Honorable John W. Kennedy.

A Contra Costa County jury convicted 48-year-old Fred Lowe from Sacramento of seven felonies, which includes the murder of four victims in the crash.

Authorities say Lowe was driving under the influence of alcohol and had five prior DUI convictions.

Joseph Horn, his dad Daryl, Baden Biddle and his dad Troy were killed in the accident. Joseph Horn’s older brother, Jared, was driving the car and was slightly injured, according to officials.

The two families were relatives and the Biddle’s were visiting from out of state for Thanksgiving weekend.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving say that drunk driving continues to be the number one killer on roads across the country:

  • About 11,000 people killed each year
  • 2 in 3 will be involved in a drunk driving crash in life

“MADD commends Prosecutor Derek Butts and the court system for ensuring justice in this case. The Horn and Biddle family suffered the ultimate consequences of drunk driving and MADD will always be here for them and other families who’ve been impacted by this 100 percent preventable crime.”

– MADD National Board Member Carol Leister who attended the sentencing hearing
