SAN JOSE (KRON) – Two people were killed and five others injured in an early morning car accident on northbound Highway 101 in San Jose on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened around 4:09 a.m. on 101 at the Interstate 280 off-ramp.
Officials say a Dodge Charger and Nissan Rogue were involved in the accident. Four people were reportedly in the Dodge and three in the Nissan.
The driver and a passenger in the Nissan have died.
One victim was pronounced dead on the scene and the second died later at the hospital, according to officials.
Authorities say 21-year-old Esteban Aguilar Jimenez was driving the Dodge and has been arrested for driving under the influence.
Jimenez was taken to a hospital for minor injuries but when he is released, he will be booked at the Santa Clara County Jail.
He faces charges for gross vehicular manslaughter.
Northbound 101 to 280 and 680 were shut down, according to Cal Trans.
The CHP says all lanes were reopened around 7:45 a.m.
No other details have been released at this time.
