A witness who lives across the street from the facility tells KRON4 that she heard two loud explosions then saw fire. Good Samaritans assisted the firefighters in getting all five residents out safely.

It is hot and dry with low humidity in the East Bay — Prime fire weather and this fire was a good reminder that everyone needs to create defensible space around their properties.

This is because when the fire broke out, embers flew as far away as 680 and touched neighboring homes. Those fires were all put out thanks to the quick work by firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
