East Bay police are asking for the public’s help to identify suspects in a brazen laptop robbery caught on camera.

KRON4’s Gabe Slate got a hold of the dramatic footage. And the ending did not turn out the way the robbers intended.

A woman is seen running with a laptop she just stole from a someone sitting in a Starbucks café. It is a snatch-and-grab caught on camera.

These type of robberies have been increasing in the Bay Area, and typically, the robber gets away with the laptop or phone they grabbed–but not this time.

“Good for her getting her stuff back,” Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ray Kelly said. “She was brave. We are hiring and need people like her.”

Surveillance video from Don’s Auto Body Shop, which is right next door to the Starbucks, captured the incident.

The general manager there, with the blessing of the Alameda County Sheriffs Office, wanted to share these images with the public to help the authorities catch the suspect.

Sgt. Kelly says after the suspect snatched the laptop, the unidentified victim, a woman, chased after the robber, catching up to her just in time at the getaway car and wrestles her laptop back.

The victim then makes her way back to the café–visibly shaken but not injured.

According to police, the suspect was also not injured.

“For her, it ended good,” Kelly said. “It doesn’t always, so only do what you’re comfortable with.”

Even though the victim got her laptop back, a crime was committed–a robbery. And police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect described as a Hispanic female, early 20s, curly brown hair, about 5 feet 5 inches tall with medium build, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

“This one ended good, but they don’t always,” Kelly said. “We will be working with partners in the Bay Area to see if this group has done any other robberies, and if the public recognizes them, they can call us.”
