Wildfire Awareness Week kicks off Sunday and with temperatures on the rise its time to prepare.
After deadly wildfires ripped through the North Bay and much of the state in 2017, fire officials want to help residents get ready before disaster strikes.
According to Cal Fire, last year was one of the worst fire seasons on record.
Over 9,000 wildfires burned throughout the state of California and nearly 12,000 structures were either damaged or destroyed.
Residents are urged to prepare well in advance by creating a great defense plan for their homes.
Cal Fire’s motto this year is “Ready, Set, Go!”
Be Ready for a wildfire by maintaining 100 feet of Defensible Space and hardening your home with fire-resistant building materials.
Be Set for a wildfire by having a wildfire action plan in place so you know what to take and where to go if you are evacuated.
Lastly, Go early when a wildfire approaches or you are asked to evacuate.
