An 11-year-old boy is alive this evening after being found at the bottom of a pool at the Antioch Water Park.

Officials say he was there with his classmates for an end of the year party.

Three schools were there at the time but things wrapped up shortly after the little boy drowned.

Officials say it was around 11:15 a.m. when someone spotted the little boy at the bottom of the pool.

They say he was immediately pulled from the water and the staff performed CPR until the Contra Costa Fire Protection District showed up to take over life-saving measures.

The child was revived and was awake and conscious when he was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.

The Antioch Parks and Recreation Department says these are the types of incidents their staff trains for.

“You know it’s a common celebration and our Antioch Water Park team works every day for the opening of the park. They train daily, they prepare all the emergency action plans, they do drills on a regular basis to prepare for any kind of accident that may happen outdoors or at a water park,” Antioch Parks and Recreation Director, Nancy Kaiser, said.

At this time, the child remains under observation at the Children’s Hospital.

The Parks Department says this is a good reminder as we enter summer to keep an eye on your kids, especially around water.

They say it’s important that everyone is on high alert because as we all know, accidents can and do happen.

The child is alive, thanks to the quick action of the lifeguards and first responders.
