(KRON) – A jewelry store owner says he was forced to shoot to fend off a trio of armed robbers.
It was a scary Monday night at Plaza Jewelers in Menlo Park.
The owners of this family business tell KRON4 the masked men stormed in with guns demanding cash and jewelry but the husband, who runs the store’s security, refused to back down using his own gun to keep his customers and the store safe.
Security video shows a group of men armed with a shotgun, a handgun and what may have been a crowbar rush in demanding a jewelry store give up their goods.
The trio’s plan is thwarted within seconds when one of the store’s owners steps in…
Rosalba Farias owns Plaza Jewelers. Her husband, Alfonso, was the man who sprung into action when their store was targeted by the masked men Monday night.
Farias was mostly concerned for her customers who were forced to take cover.
The unknown men were seen coming and going in a gold-colored van. Nothing was taken and no one was hurt.
The bullet shot by Alfonso Argulo caused minimal damage after only puncturing the store’s front door.
Alfonso felt it was necessary to protect his family’s business.
Farias was grateful for her husband’s bravery and quick thinking to stop the bad guys. It’s a night they hope to never experience again.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case.
This attempted armed robbery comes after another jewelry store at the Tanforan Mall was targeted by would-be robbers last month.
All of the wanted suspects are still at large.
Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (650) 363-4911 or an anonymous tip line at (800) 547-2700.
