SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — An Atmospheric River has arrived to the Bay Area as heavy showers continue to soak the region.

Strong winds and heavy rain are expected all day on Sunday.

Weather advisories, power outages, airport delays and more information from the storm can be found below.

Weather Advisories

The intense rainfall has already caused flooding and several weather advisories are in effect across the Bay.

  • Sausalito declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon, due to widespread storm damage.
  • Flash Flood Warning: A Flash Flood Warning, which was upgraded from a watch, has been issued in the 2020 Glass Fire burn scar area due to current rainfall rates and the potential for debris flows
    • The fire department asks residents to go to srcity.org/RainReady and click “2020 Glass Fire Burn Scar Area” to see the risk map
    • Extended until 9 P.M. for parts of Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties
  • Flash Flood Watch: The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch to the CZU Lightning Complex burn area, increasing the potential for debris flows, downed trees and power outages.
  • Wind Advisory: A Wind Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday — which includes all parts of the Bay Area
  • High Surf Advisory: A High Surf Advisory will be in effect for coastal parts of the Bay Area from 11 p.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Tuesday

In Fairfax, sirens have been activated in Ross, San Anselmo, and Fairfax. They say creeks are starting to crest, and crews are asking people to avoid the area. Latest information: https://emergency.marincounty.org/

Evacuations Issued

Evacuation Orders:

  • San Francisco
    • An Evacuation Order was issued for the 2176-2178 block of 9th Avenue due to a leaning 100-foot tree worsening and threatening multiple structures, authorities said
  • San Mateo County
    • South Coast Zone SMC-E019, which includes Ano Nuevo State Park, Whitehouse Canyon Road and areas south of Gazos Creek Road east of Highway 1
    • South Coast Zone SMC-E038, which includes Butano State Park and the community of Barranca Knolls, west of Cloverdale Road
    • The communities of Loma Mar and Dearborn Park in Zone SMC-E018
    • The community of Butano Canyon in Zone SMC-E096
  • Placer County
    – These areas of Colfax are under evacuation order due to potential debris flows from high amounts of rain in the River Fire burn area: Hill crest Blvd, south from 1565 Hillcrest Blvd to Spring Valley Rd. Spring Valley Rd. from Milk Ranch Road.  Ben Taylor to the Bear River.

Half Moon Bay High School, located at 1 Lewis Foster Dr., is open as a temporary evacuation shelter.

Starting at 5:00 p.m., the temporary evacuation center at Half Moon Bay High School, located at 1 Lewis Foster Dr., will be moved to the Ted Adcock Center, also located in Half Moon Bay.

The Mill Valley Community Center has opened up as a warming center for anyone who needs to leave their home because of rising flood water.

Power Outages

As of 4:30 p.m. today (Sunday, Oct. 24), approximately 147,744 PG&E customers in the Bay Area are experiencing weather-related power outages.

  • San Francisco: 8,644 customers affected
  • Peninsula: 46,529 customers affected
  • North Bay (Marin and Sonoma): 41,938 customers affected
  • East Bay: 21,685 customers affected
  • South Bay: 28,948 customers affected

Closures

The severe weather on Sunday has forced a number of roads and establishments to close across the Bay Area.

Roads:

  • The following roads in Contra Costa County are closed
    • Pacheco Boulevard between South Buchanan Circle and Aspen Drive, Pacheco
    • Center Avenue Bridge at Grayson Creek, Pacheco
    • Marsh Drive, Pacheco
    • Arthur Road at Pacheco Boulevard, Pacheco
    • Mary Ann Lane and Clearland Circle, Bay Point
    • Willow Pass Road near Clearland Drive, Bay Point
  • Sonoma County published a list of road closures due to the storm.
  • Miller Avenue is closed at three spots, due to flooding. Spots include Montford Avenue, at Camino Alto, and between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard. – Mill Valley
  • MLK Drive between 25th Avenue and Chain of Lakes Drive – San Francisco
  • Golden Gate Park entrance on Sunset Boulevard at Irving Street – San Francisco
  • Los Cerros – Greenbae
  • 200 block of Prospect Drive – San Rafael
  • Woodland Avenue between Octavia and B streets – San Rafael
  • Stow Lake Drive – San Francisco
  • Panoramic Highway between 4-corners intersection and Throckmorton Fire Station – Marin County
  • Highway 1 – Point Reyes
  • Great Highway – San Francisco
  • 8th Street and 9th Street and Natoma St. – San Francisco
