ALAMEDA, Calif. (KRON) — Police shut down an intersection in an Alameda neighborhood early Tuesday morning following a fatal car collision.

One person was killed and another was taken to the hospital.

The crash happened at the intersection of Cambridge Drive and Fernside Boulevard.

The family of the victim is devastated by what happened and they, along with neighbors, say speeding has become a major issue in this area.

An SUV was sent flying off of the road and into a home last night after someone in another car blew through a stop sign.

This horrific crash has left a neighborhood pleading for something to change — The crash was caught on surveillance video.

A car is seen speeding through a stop sign and striking an SUV.

Video from the Citizen App shows the aftermath of the accident. It ended up in a yard at the intersection.

Les Bianchi’s 27-year-old son Nicholas was killed Monday night in the crash. Bianchi says his son was returning home from jet skiing when his truck was t-boned by a speeding driver around 8 p.m.

Speeding, residents say, has become a problem in this area. Rex Smith was horrified by what he saw in his front yard Monday night.

Mangled bushes and tire tracks burned into his lawn bringing up unwanted memories.

The city has put in automated speed signs to deter people from racing up and down Fernside but neighbors say they’re ignored by drivers.

They’re asking for police to step up patrols. The intersection reopened Tuesday morning after more than 12 hours of being closed off.

The fatal wreck has left residents angered and saddened.

The Bianchi family wants justice.

Police have not released many details about this accident but it’s believed by many in this neighborhood that it was caused by two drivers who were racing who then struck an innocent person.

People have been coming by the crash site leaving flowers for the victim. His family is hoping something will be done.
