SoOakland is a major community festival for all ages that aims to bridge the gap between ethnic backgrounds.
Organizer Shayla Jamerson told KRON4 that SoOakland is tailored to Oakland and Bay Area Natives nostalgic experiences growing up here.
In addition, showing inclusion towards those who aren’t from here. To have thousands travel from all over the world to experience what Authentic Oakland looks and feels like from the perspective of SoOakland organizers.
This is the 3rd year for the SoBlack BHM event. It will take place Saturday, Feb 23rd at Level13 in Oakland 3pm-9pm.
Over the years it has transitioned from just a party to an actual event to highlight and showcase amazing musical artists, fashion designers, and businesses within the community.
This event is important because it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the history of Oakland’s Black History which includes the Black Panther Party movement (which is why we have a mandatory dress code of All Black because that was the BPP uniform).
This event also serves as a networking opportunity with other groups from different backgrounds that celebrate us as well.
