The San Francisco Police Department has arrested a suspect in the assault of an 88-year-old woman on Jan. 8 at a park on Visitacion Avenue.

Through investigation, police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Keonte Gathron.

Officials say they arrested Gathron on Saturday evening after committing another robbery.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott released this statement:

“San Francisco Police Department investigators worked tirelessly to identify a suspect in this case. This is an ongoing investigation and we will have further details to follow later in the week. But we want to express our gratitude to neighbors and leaders in the Visitacion Valley community who worked closely with our investigators to address this act of senseless violence.”

A photo of the teenager has not been released at this time. 

Officials say that the woman continues to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Supervisor Shamann Walton released a statement after hearing of the news:

“Today, we have learned that the SFPD has apprehended a suspect connected to the attack on Ms. Huang. I want to thank SFPD for your diligence in investigating this case. Our community still has a lot of work to do to heal.”
