1 dead, 2 injured in head-on collision on Highway 4 in Brentwood

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) – One person died and two others were injured in a car collision on Highway 4 in Contra Costa County on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

Around 4:56 p.m., officials received reports of a head-on collision between Balfour Road and Marsh Creek Road in Brentwood.


Authorities say a grey 2008 Nissan Ultima drove across the solid double yellow lines and collided with a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of the Nissan, identified as a 21-year-old male from Antioch, was pronounced dead.

The coroners office will release his identity at a later time.

Two adults in the Hyundai were critically injured, a male driver and female passenger.

Con Air 1 and 2 arrived on the scene to transport the two to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek

The road was temporarily closed while investigators were on the scene.
