SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On the Thursday before Christmas, we spotted an East Bay family of four scrambling at the drop off at the San Francisco International Airport
“It’s just the usual, anytime, holiday or not, it’s usually hectic with the kids,” one traveler said.
For another traveler, just getting an Uber proved difficult.
A shuttle ride later thanks to a friend, they were on their destination like thousands of other travelers at sfo
“This is a time of year where we ensure security checkpoints are properly staffed for the holidays,” said Doug Yaken, spokesman for the airport.
Yakel advises travelers to pack extra patience — simple advice that’s given every holiday travel season. Some seem to know the drill from previous experience.
“Just get to the airport early, you got to be early,” one traveler said. “We were early today and everything went smoothly but there’s always these little bumps on the road and lines to get through security and early is the best thing.”
Arriving visitors thankful they planned their holiday getaway ahead of time.
“Tomorrow is going to be terrible and my tip is get to the airport early,” another traveler said.
About 180,000 people are expected to come through SFO on Friday.
“It’s going to be a busier time of year than what we’re used to. Weather could also be a factor, not only here in the Bay Area but also in your destination,” Yakel said.
Another traveler wasn’t too pleased with the delays.
“Big delays, we got to Newark at 11 o’clock and didn’t leave until 1,” the traveler said.
“The flight was only delayed about 20 minutes and I’m just waiting for them to move the San Francisco Airport to San Jose so there’s no more fog.”
Hopefully the waiting is worth the reunions. “This is Christmas time, isn’t everybody excited? Santa’s coming.”
