After the shooting in Pittsburgh, Bay Area synagogues are re-examining their security measures.
One synagogue says it’s now taking extra steps to protect the congregation.
In Santa Rosa, they have increased security at Shomrei Torah after that shooting over the weekend. But the rabbi also tells KRON4 that sadly, tough security is always on their minds.
“We have panic buttons, cameras, and 24-hour surveillance,” Rabbi Stephanie Kramer said.
KRON4 sat down with Rabbi Kramer about the tragic events from over the weekend.
“I was at a women’s retreat,” Rabbi Kramer said. “It was awful, but I wasn’t surprised. It is unfortunate what is going on.”
The rabbi says over the years and faced with threats at various synagogues, it has always been a high priority to conduct active shooter drills, as well as employ a wide variety of safety measures.
“I would like to say I am surprised about all of this, but we always need to be on the ready,” Rabbi Kramer said.
But while the congregation is constantly monitoring its safety needs, it is also embracing the spiritual concerns of those in the community.
This Thursday evening, there will be an interfaith service with eight different churches invited to participate.
“We need to come together,” Rabbi Kramer said.
