A Bay Area shelter is stepping up to help an animal rescue organization displaced by the Carr Fire.
Walnut Creek’s Animal Rescue Foundation has already taken in close to 40 dogs and cats.
These are just some of the 14 dogs and 24 cats that were taken in by the Animal Rescue Foundation, otherwise known as ARF.
Last week the pups and kitties had been waiting to be adopted at the Haven Shelter south of Redding, but as the Carr Fire erupted, that shelter started to become overwhelmed with strays fleeing the flames, which is why ARF stepped in to help.
“Haven humane actually had a pool of over 500 animals since Thursday and so in order to alleviate the burden on their efforts, we are pulling their existing population and trying to get them re-homed like this little one who is 10 months old she has a little broken arm but she’s gonna feel quite nicely. She loves children and she’s looking for a new forever hom.”
And Reign is about to get a lot more company.
These photos show the crates filled with over 100 more dogs and cats getting ready to be transported to Walnut Creek.
They are due to arrive sometime Monday night.
It didn’t help that the Redding shelter itself decided to evacuate since they were just a few blocks outside the mandatory evacuation area.
These pets who arrived last week could be ready for adoption as soon as Wednesday after they’ve been medically cleared.
The folks at ARF say if you aren’t ready for the commitment that comes with adoption, they are always looking for volunteers to foster animals.
That’s until the dog or cat is old enough or well enough to be ready to be placed in its forever home.
