CONTRA COSTA CO. (KRON) — Many Bay Area fire crews were deployed to Lake County to battle the massive Clayton fire.
The Clayton fire is 95 percent contained, and over 1,200 firefighters battled the blaze which has burned nearly 200 homes.
KRON4’s Alecia Reid reached out to crews part of the Contra Costa County, and understanding what the firefighters had to deal with.
According to Captain George Laing of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District, crews may receive assignments in the middle of the night and have to be available and ready when emergencies break.
Many firefighters are specially trained for situations like the Clayton fire in Lake County.
Fire crews that responded to the Clayton fire were from Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.
Crews would use special vehicles that carry up to 500 pounds of water, and the fire trucks will also carry medical supplies.
All the firefighters working on the Clayton fire have returned home. Captain Laing said this is the peak of fire season, and crews have to be ready to be deployed at any moment.
