KRON— Congresswoman Jackie Speier addressed Congress Tuesday morning about closing gun loopholes just days after the Orlando mass shooting, the deadliest in U.S. history.
Speier compared the shooting to the ones in Aurora, Newtown, Umpqua and San Bernadino.
All of the killers had access to an AR-15, an assault weapon that can fire many rounds at the same time.
“Why have we created a separate market for criminals and domestic abusers and the mentally ill?” Speier asked Congress. “Let’s ban assault weapons.”
The ban would help reduce the amount of bloodshed on American soil, she said.
Speier also proposed background checks for every person who wants to buy a gun.
Let’s ban assault weapons … designed to hunt American’s in their most vulnerable spaces: churches, schools, night clubs. #gunviolence— Jackie Speier (@RepSpeier) June 14, 2016
