NOVATO (KRON) — It was the Rams versus the Patriots Sunday afternoon, but in the Bay Area it was Marin Catholic High versus Serra High where the two starting quarterbacks went to school.
As Patriots star and San Mateo native Tom Brady goes for his sixth Super Bowl win, Rams Quarterback Jared Goff is playing his first Super Bowl.
Inside Moylan’s Brewery in Novato, Goff’s hometown, there were more people rooting for the Rams.
“I just feel like Jared Goff you know is from the Bay Area and getting there is great for him, I feel like this is his time to shine,” said Even Sednir.
Brendan Moylan, the owner of Moylan’s Brewery, says his nephew used to play sports with Goff.
“He’s on the biggest stage right now, in front of millions of people, it’s been a close first half, there hasn’t been a lot of scoring so we’re hoping for some action in the second half,” said Moylan.
There was action – with good food and beer and we found one Patriots fan in the mix.
“I am, I am, but Brady’s a local guy. You know and he’s an underdog, and the greatest dynasty to ever – in all of sports arguably. Go Bay Area, go Pats,” said Jared Smithson, a Patriots fan and Castro Valley native.
In the end, the Patriots got it done but one Rams fan kept a positive attitude for their hometown guy.
“He was a champion in everything he did, that was for sure,” said Novato resident Denise Stevens. “We all had our young boys and sports and we all thought he was going to be someone important and he was.”
