FREMONT (KRON) — BART service on the Fremont line has been restored after being shut down for part of the day.

Around 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, officials with the transit agency were notified about a fire at the yard of one of its power substations on the Fremont line.

The fire was contained by 1 p.m., but as a safety precaution because of the fire, BART stopped service between the Hayward and Fremont stations.

During the closure, riders were offered a shuttle to get them between the Fremont and Union City stations. AC Transit offered a special bus to shuttle people between the Union City and Hayward stations.

By 1:49 p.m., BART announced that service had been restored throughout the area.
