In light of what appears to be explosive devices being sent to prominent political leaders and CNN, BART is making police officers and K-9’s more visible, increasing security at stations throughout the system.
It’s happening especially in downtown San Francisco, where K-9’s searched and sniffed trains and platforms.
“I rode BART home after my shift, and I was scared to death,” BART rider Shontise Nicole said. “It was so packed and crowded, and I was really, really scared. But I was unaware of what happened until I actually got on BART, and I was shaken.”
BART says while there have been no specific threats made against the system, it’s important they boost the presence of officers should an incident breakout here.
“I’m not really afraid,” BART rider Cathie Byington said. “I kind of stay in a passenger car that I feel pretty safe at, and I have not had a problem.”
Not much out of the ordinary at the North Concord Martinez BART station, as passengers saw officers there during the morning commute.
But it was mostly quiet in the late morning and early afternoon.
A BART officer did keep an eye out at the Pleasant Hill BART Station where the day was also calm.
BART says riders should not hesitate to reach out to an officer if witnessing anything out of the ordinary and potentially dangerous.
