SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — BART experienced the fifth busiest day ever on Thursday, just days before Super Bowl 50.
486,596 people rode BART on Feb. 5, surpassing the ridership total set in August 2013 for the number five spot for most riders on BART in one day.
The record set in August 2013 was due to the closure of the Bay Bridge.
On Wednesday, BART carried 471,663 riders and was on-time 96% of the time, according to a BART officials.
The average weekday ridership over the past seven months has been 431,332.
BART officials were able to complete train maintence that allows them to run longer trains on the busiest routes just in time for Super Bowl 50.
BART is expected to be even more crowded during the weekend.
