Back-to-back DUI arrests in Sonoma County

SONOMA COUNTY (BCN) — The arrest of one alleged drunk driver led to the arrest of another minutes later near Santa Rosa on Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A CHP officer, who was monitoring traffic speed on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Mendocino Avenue around 8:50 a.m., pulled over a Dodge truck that was traveling at 86 mph, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The driver, Dylan Eichelberger, 25, of Santa Rosa, told the officer he had been drinking the night before, Sloat said.

Eichelberger, who has two prior DUI convictions in three years, was unable to complete sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Sloat said.

While taking Eichelberger to Sonoma County Jail, the CHP officer saw a Nissan Altima drive 45 mph through a red light on Bicentennial Way at Ventura Avenue, Sloat said.

The officer stopped the Nissan and noticed the driver, Damian Murphy, 36, of Santa Rosa, appeared intoxicated, Sloat said.

Another CHP officer responded and determined Murphy was more than three times over the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol limit, and Murphy also was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, Sloat said.
