OAKLAND (KRON) — Say G’day to Oakland Zoo’s adorable new star. Maloo, the baby joey was born in the fall of 2014 and recently made the grand exit out of his mother’s pouch, according to zoo officials.
Maloo, which means thunder, is a wallaroo who will grow to be about 5 feet tall.
“We are very pleased to welcome another joey to our Wild Australia exhibit,” said Lovesong Cahill, Senior Keeper at Oakland Zoo. “Maloo is doing great, but still prefers to stay close to mom. From the train, you can see him hopping around, learning what is edible to graze upon, or resting in the afternoon sun with his fellow wallaroos.”
When Maloo was born he was about the size of a kidney bean, but has been steady growing in the safety of his mother’s pouch. He’s now finally big enough to leave the pouch and venture on his own.
You can see Maloo at the Oakland zoo between 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
