ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) – Searchers have found the body of an avid hiker who went missing Thursday in the Angeles National Forest.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan says 63-year-old John Richard King was discovered Saturday in the water below Hermit Falls.
His family arrived at the scene to identify his body.
Investigators believe King accidentally slipped and fell about 40 feet into the water.
Search-and-rescue workers had been looking for King since Friday, the day after his family reported that he never returned home from his hike.
King’s car was found in the parking area of Chantry Flat, the start of the hiking trail that leads to the waterfall.
The area is popular among cliff divers. An 18-year-old man died after jumping from the top of Hermit Falls in April 2015.
