FREMONT (KRON) — Authorities who were searching for a missing man found a body in a Fremont pond on Tuesday morning.
The body was discovered just before 11 a.m. as Fremont police and East Bay Regional Parks District officials were searching for the man near the Coyote Hills Regional Park, according to parks district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones.
The body was found lying face down in the pond, in an area adjacent to the park, belonging to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Jones said.
The refuge is governed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Authorities had been in the area since Monday night, after a woman reported her husband missing around 10 p.m., according to Jones.
The missing man, a 48-year-old Fremont man, allegedly had a history of depression and left a note for his wife, saying he was heading to the park, Jones said.
Authorities do not yet know if the body belongs to the missing man.Bay City News contributed to this report.
