Attempted murder suspect arrested in Soledad

SOLEDAD (KRON)—A man has been arrested for trying to kill two men, according to Soledad police.

The incident happened on the 1300 block of West Street at 5:22 a.m. on July 31 when two men were inside a garage talking to each other.


A man ran into the driveway of the home and took out a handgun firing several rounds at the two.

The men were able to escape from the bullets being fired by going inside the house. The suspect left the scene.

The victims were not hurt, but bullet casings were found at the home.

From investigating the case, one of the Soledad police officers was able to identify a suspect.

Soledad police along with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant on the 200 block of 5th Street in Soledad.

Officers found 20-year-old Jairo Isaiah Chavez and two loaded guns. One of the guns was stolen out of Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999. It has not been determined yet if the other gun was stolen.

Chavez has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of stolen property, promote a criminal street gang, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a loaded firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon.
