SANTA ROSA (KRON) — Police in Santa Rosa have arrested a man who they think is responsible for sexually assaulting a woman earlier this month.

On June 6, around 12:40 p.m., police got a call about a sexual assault that was happening in the Coffey Park area of the city. The caller said that she saw it as she was driving on Coffey Lane.

The caller gave police a description of the male attacker, including the direction she saw him walking. The caller stayed with the woman until police arrived.

When police arrived, officers started checking the area for the male attacker.

The woman who was attacked told police that she had been approached by a man as she was walking south on Coffee Lane, about a block south of Coffey Park.

The victim told police that the man asked if he could hug her and she told him know. She said that the man grabbed her by both arms as she yelled for help and tried to get away.

The woman said that the man then sexually assaulted her, touching her under the shirt and in her pants, which he had partially pulled down.

Police think that the man may have run off when the witness stopped her car to help the woman.

Just a short time later, witnesses gave police information about a man, 30-year-old Jason Hulac, who lives in the area. Police spoke to the Hulac at his Santa Rosa house, subsequently taking him to the police station to be interviewed by detectives.

Hulac was arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit a felony. Because of similarities between this incident and several others, a bail increase was requested.

During their investigation, officers and detectives found information to lead them to think that Hulac may have been involved in two similar instances. The first happened in February in Spring Lake Park, the second in April on Round Barn Boulevard.
