RICHMOND (KRON) — One person has been arrested, believed to have been the driver in a deadly accident in Richmond Saturday night.
That man is 20-year-old Epigmenio Perez of Richmond.
According to Richmond police Captain Bisa French, officers were chasing a man who was recklessly driving a black Chevrolet Corvette in a residential area around 9:30 Saturday night.
The car chase lasted just a few minutes when officers lost sight of the car after it turned onto 23rd Street.
A short time later, officers spotted the Corvette. It had crashed into another vehicle at 24th Street and Gaynor Avenue.
One person in the second car died in the crash. He has been identified as 24-year-old Anthony Nguyen of San Pablo.
The driver and another passenger were both taken to the hospital; one in critical condition and other has life-threatening injuries.
Early Sunday morning, police said that they weren’t sure if one of the injured people was from the victim vehicle, the suspect vehicle or a pedestrian, but by 8 a.m., Richmond police Lt. C. Whitney was able to confirm that all the injured people were in the victim’s vehicle.
Police said the driver of the Corvette ran from the crash site, but officers were able to gather enough evidence at the crash site to identify and arrest him.
Richmond Police Department’s homicide unit, the California Highway Patrol and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s officer are working together to investigate the deadly crash.
